Art and Impact: InsideOut Studio

It’s a studio, an art gallery, a retail space... and so much more.

You can feel the impact of InsideOut as soon as you walk through the door. This contemporary art studio produces truly unique art daily and focuses on providing opportunities for artists with developmental disabilities to produce, market, and receive an income from their work— all while gaining confidence in their abilities, too. 

Passion & Purpose

A large group of talented artists have their own art studio where they can work, and it doubles as a brick-and-mortar store where visitors can shop.

“InsideOut is an art studio for adults with developmental disabilities. We market, exhibit and sell their artwork and our artists receive 50% of each sale," explains marketing executive, Rhonda Brown. "We have artists that are motivated to create art for a paycheck and we have artists that just love the artistic process, either way all of our artists are proud of their accomplishments.”

Over 100 artists have found a supportive studio environment where they can produce, market and earn an income. This opportunity for creative expression and income through art, cultivates freedom and independence.

"Our artists are proud of their art and are happy when someone appreciates their hard work. They love attending exhibition openings to see their art on display and to watch people admiring the art. They are really excited that we have a retail store to sell their art and they enjoy working in the studio so people can watch them create," Rhonda says.

The talented staff help the each artist experiment with different mediums or anything they would like to explore. The artists enjoy working in the studio with their art educators, Stephen Smith and Amanda Joy Dennewitz.

“It has been my pleasure to serve as Art Education Coordinator at InsideOut. I get to work alongside some of the most fun artists on a daily basis and share their successes and challenges as they go through the creative process," says Stephen. "We love to highlight our artists' abilities, talents, their personalities, and share their amazing work."

Customers can visit the studio to shop these pieces in-store, or have the option to shop online. With each and every visit to the retail shop you’ll find new and exciting pieces. If you’re in store and see something you like, but other colors would be better for your décor? No problem! You can commission an artist to craft a custom piece.
