Jag's Steak & Seafood Celebrates 20 Years
Twenty years of incredible teamwork + culinary excellence!
Kicking off 2023, Jag's Steak & Seafood is celebrating their 20th anniversary with special events all year long. Learn more about this incredible steakhouse, a chef's journey, and some events you can look forward to.
Incredible Steaks + More
This award-winning, fine dining restaurant has been offering innovative menus and personalized service for more than 20 years. Jag's is known for their creativity, delicious steaks, handcrafted cocktails, and most importantly— consistency. Every dish is carefully made and perfected so that every experience is an intimate one.
One of their most popular dishes is the Big Oscar Filet (pictured above). Jag's Head Chef, Michelle Brown, created her own version of an Oscar steak for a more elevated dish. Rather than topping the steak with lump crab or king crab, Michelle sautés shrimp, crab and lobster in a scampi butter to top the filet along with a hollandaise sauce. The result is absolutely delectable, especially paired with mashed potatoes.

Meet Chef Michelle Brown
It's no question that much of Jag's success can be attributed to their Chef Proprietor and majority owner, Michelle Brown. Not only is she an extremely talented chef, but also an incredible mentor. With 80 employees, more than half of the staff members have been employed at Jag's for more than 10 years.
"Mentorship, education and character have always been pillars of our core values at Jag's," Chef Brown says.
Mentorship also played a huge role in developing her own career as well. Michelle's journey began when she was 18 and took a job at The Banker's Club where she was actually hired as a valet parker. Her first day on the job, Michelle had to walk into the kitchen to clock in, and that's all it took. "I walked right up to the chef and introduced myself," she says, "I told him I was hired to park cars, but I really wanted to work in that kitchen."
It took about three months until he was able to take her on the staff. After that, Michelle worked under him for nearly four years learning everything she could. "And I just never turned back," she says, "I found my calling there."
Following that mentorship, Michelle moved to San Fransisco and lived there for four years while she continued cooking and learning. She then moved back to Cincinnati and took on the Executive Chef role at the Beckett Ridge Country Club. "I loved creating things and interacting with the people there. We did a lot of fun things and it was a big part of my growth," Michelle says.
During this time, John Allgaier was envisioning Jag's and looking for a head chef. Michelle didn't know it at the time, but John and his partners had been attending her events at the country club to see what she was capable of. They set up an interview and Michelle accepted the job offer a few days later. Before Jag's officially opened in January 2003, Michelle took three months off to travel extensively across the midwest to do her research on steakhouses. From the food, to the atmosphere, to the experience, she wanted Jag's to be the best it could be.
Michelle and her husband then purchased Jag’s in June 2015, and she became the majority owner of the restaurant. This marked a new era for not only Jag's, but Michelle in her career. Today, Jag's Steak & Seafood is known for the best steak, seafood, and raw bar in the region, as well as a destination for an evening of complete entertainment. Chef Brown says she credits a lot of their success to her passion, her amazing staff, and the community.
20th Anniversary Events
To mark this big anniversary, Jag's has planned a year full of events, unique promotions and keepsakes to celebrate with the community. "We really wanted to celebrate all year, so each month we have come up with something special," Michelle says.
Some of these include a Sommelier Wine Dinner Series, Private Bourbon Barrel Tasting, Commemorative 20th Anniversary Wine Glass, Anniversary Gift Card Sale, and many more to be announced.
One event in particular that Michelle is looking forward to is the bourbon tasting. "We had the opportunity to pick our own barrel from Weller Bourbon. All of the chefs and tenured staff did a tasting and we all agreed on our own barrel," she says.
Jag's will receive that barrel of bourbon this January, and plans to hold this event in March. Be the first to know about this event and the upcoming celebrations by signing up for Jag's emails here!
